Roman Days 2022

Record number of visitors: 11,011 visitors experienced the Romans live with us!

On 6th and 7th August 2022, after a four year break, the Romans at last encamped again in Haltern! Legionaries marched in formation and presented their weapons, Roman riders demonstrated martial arts on horseback. Potters, shoemakers, smiths and Germanic traders, too, offered their wares.

For the first time the newly erected guardhouse could be experienced first-hand, authentically equipped, just as the legionaries could have left it 2000 years ago. There the Legion XIX took up position and proudly presented their new eagle, the highest insignia, whose original was lost in the Varus battle. But a live eagle also circled over the Roman camp of Aliso.
